AIRLIA IS FOR SALE

AIRLIA (Airlia is a Greek woman's name meaning ethereal or "of the air") is a 44' fiberglass sailing vessel designed by Pierre Meunier and built by Reliance Sailing Craft of Canada in 1975 for a couple who planned a leisurely round the world cruise. Finished and launched in 1980, she left in 1986 returning to the United States in 1999.

Strongly built, beautifully finished and thoughtfully outfitted, and with her safety, mechanical and rigging all overhauled and updated, she's ready to sail across the Bay or across the Atlantic.

Her open deck plan, easily managed rig, and deep cockpit (with dodger) provide comfortable, safe and exhilarating sailing. She has six bunks in three cabins, a sea-going galley, a well outfitted navigation area, two heads, and a comfortable salon with ample seating, book cases and lockers, and a large drop leaf table.

AIRLIA's safety equipment complies with US Coast Guard requirements and includes a 2004 AVON 6 man Ocean pack life raft, 2003 GPIRB, Man Overboard equipment, and new Type 1 PFD's, 4 fire extinguishers, and large bilge pumps. She is equipped with GPS and VHF as well as a traditional sextant, navigational tables, charts and Cruising Guides and Pilot Books. She has heavy ground tackle and a manual/electric windlass, storm sails for heavy weather and awnings for peaceful anchorages, a boom gallows, swim ladder, and on deck sun shower. She has a sailing dinghy and inflatable tender and outboard.

In 2003-2004 her engine controls were replaced, the engine overhauled, new start and house batteries installed, new fresh water and salt water hoses, valves, and pumps, new running rigging, new galley stove, new propane regulator. Her sails (including storm trysail and storm jib) and canvas work have been inspected and repaired. She has new life upper lifelines. She has an Aries self steerer. Electricity is generated by engine alternator, and by a solar panel on the boom gallows.    New Main in 2005, additional safety equipment in 2006.

For Sale: Reliance Sailing Craft fully found off-shore cutter rigged sailboat currently laid up at Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. AIRLIA circumnavigated in the late 80's and early 90's, since then she has cruised New England and in 2004 sailed from Massachusetts to the Azores, Ireland, Scotland and England.   In 2006 she made a trouble free passage back to Martha’s Vineyard.     The hull was built in Canada in 1975, completed by a professional boat builder to high standards and launched in New England in 1980. AIRLIA is hull #10 approximately 50 built, and has a quality number of custom construction features which set her apart from and of a higher quality than other GRP cruising sailboats. She has robust scantlings and is immensely strong with a very sea kindly hull, long keel, attractive sheer and clean deck with small deck house and low trunk cabin. Comfortable at sea an in port, she was refitted in 2003-2004 for the transatlantic passage, with the guiding principle being to keep the all systems safe, reliable, simple to operate and maintain by a couple. AIRLIA combines traditional appearance, extraordinary sea keeping ability, excellent sailing characteristics, bullet proof construction and systems with an attractive, comfortable three cabin layout (sleeps 7). She has a sea going galley, two heads, a nav station, and comes with an exceptionally complete inventory of new safety equipment, heavy ground tackle (electric windlass), sails in good condition (including a new main, and storm sails), tools and spares, household equipment, navigational equipment, a Dyer sailing dinghy and a new Zodiac with 2.2hp outboard.
